Meggido

Bob, pointing to The Valley of Jezreel

We just finished visiting Tel Meggido, the place that was fortified by Solomon, and made into a military city with stables with original feeding troughs (mangers), that probably would look like the one Mary used as the first crib for the baby Jesus. We sat at the top of a hill overlooking the Valley of Jezreel, where the famous Battle of Armaggedon will one day be fought. Pastor Bob gave us a 15 minute summary of a whole semester of Eschatology ("end times") and we were reminded of the fact that this land does not live in security now and the stage is set for the appearance of the man of lawlessness, who will offer peace in exchange for power. The lesson was even more vivid as fighter planes were scrambling a couple of times around us. There is a military airport nearby with planes underground ready to defend this country at any time. Sadly there is no guarantee that this will give them security. Only the Prince of Peace will and we pray for that day.
