Thoughts from Rebekah. . . July 12th

Meet Rebekah Stebbins
I am a recent College of Wooster graduate, with a background in German and Spanish.  Wooster Grace Brethren has been part of my life for the past 20 years, and I have done several student mission trips with the junior and senior high school ministries group.  I am looking forward to the future, and seeing how my passion for different cultures will influence my life and those around me.

July 12th

Today was just supposed to be a “lazy” day of traveling. We slept in for once, went to the airport, flew to Macapa, and we were supposed to relax and check into our new hotel. That didn’t happen though. Once we landed in Macapa and retrieved all our things, we were graciously welcomed by a ton of people from the Grace Brethren church here in macapa. There were so many people there to help us/drive us that only 2 people went in each car even though we could have fit more! We just had to spread out to a lot of vehicles. Then instead of going to the hotel, we went to the church and had a snack. We met even more people and we decided to do a little sightseeing before going to the hotel. Not quite sure what was going on, a girl came up to me and waved at me to follow her. She said we were going. No one else was moving yet, so I was a bit confused. I went with her and she and her father were my personal drivers/escorts for the evening. I found out that the girl was just 15 and could speak a bit of English and understand even more. As we got to our first destination, a Portuguese fort, we had to wait for the rest of our entourage. At least five more cars pulled in after us! We had a very large group of Americans and Brazilians. The entire night when we were out being tourists my new friend was quick to make sure I unde3rstood everything and got lots off pictures. I just loved how she kept track of me the entire night. This is just one other example of how amazing the church in Macapa is. They are so prepared for us and take such great care of us. It’s so amazing. After a visit to Museum Sacaca, we continued on to the equator marker and got some fun pictures there too. The best part of the whole evening was the huge entourage3 we were in. This group showed us so much love on our fierst day here. After touring, we came back to the church and had a wonderful dinner then had a meeting to discuss the next day’s events for the English camp. We check in to our hotel around 9ish, had a team meeting to further our plans for the camp, and finally went to bed. So a nice, peaceful day turned into a long wonderful day instead.
